Boxing Betting: Saul Alvarez vs. Kermit Citron for WBC Junior Middleweight Title

This weekend the Bodog Sportsbook will offer boxing odds on the WBC Middleweight title fight between Kermit Citron (33-4-1) and Saul Alvarez (38-0-1). Handicapping for this fight will heavily favor the champion Alvarez, but the price may be a better bargain than boxing fans are used to getting on a champion who’s about to face an opponent that’s obviously not up to his standards.

The undefeated Alvarez has won his last 33 fights and appears to be at the peak of his boxing career. Facing Citron should pose little difficulty for the skilled Middleweight champion who stacks up better in every department. One would think that so many advantages would jack the price on the champ up to well over -1000, but the Bodog Sportsbook will likely post a cheaper price. Any boxing odds on Alvarez better than -800 would be a bargain in this mismatch.

32-year-old Citron’s boxing career appears to be on the downswing since he lost his IBF Welterweight title to Antonio Margarito back in 2008. In that time he has a record of 9-4-1, which includes two losses in his last three fights. How he got a shot at Alvarez’s title is a bit of a head-scratcher, but we’ve seen bigger upsets than this happen in the sweet science over the years. Expect an upset payout on Citron to be worth around +500 at the Bodog Sportbook once the lines are posted this week.

In order for the upset bet to pay off Citron will need to land a big punch that hurts the champion and changes the direction of the fight. If he can’t find the champion’s chin Alvarez will likely pick him apart for a unanimous decision or late-round KO victory.

With the bout fast approaching, get your boxing odds at Bodog.
