Holding down the biggest division lead in baseball, the Milwaukee Brewers will be looking to push the St. Louis Cardinals even farther beneath them in the NL Central standings on Wednesday night when the teams close out their MLB betting series.
The race for top spot in the NL Central has turned into a rout; first the Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates faded badly, and then the Cardinals fell out of contention. That’s put the Brewers at 7/2 on the NL Pennant odds at the Bodog Sportsbook, and at 13/2 on the World Series odds.
Hopeless Cardinals optimists can bet on their team at a wallet-stuffing 80/1 odds to claim the NL Pennant and 150/1 odds to win the World Series this season. Or, with just a few weeks left in the season and the Brewers’ magic number shrinking rapidly, they could just flush that cash down the toilet – the result would end up the same.
Zack Greinke (14-5, 4.00 ERA) will head to the hill for the Brewers on Wednesday night, and he’s been on a roll for the team over the past two months. The righthander has only lost two of his past 10 trips to the mound, giving up two or fewer earned runs in nine of those contests.
Against the Cardinals on August 1 Greinke cruised to a victory, allowing two runs on seven hits in six innings of work. The righthander is 5-2 with a 3.95 ERA in his career against St. Louis.
The Cards will counter with Chris Carpenter (8-9, 3.92 ERA) on Wednesday, and he hasn’t added to his win total since he beat the Brewers on August 11 (two runs on 10 hits over eight innings of work). The righthander is 5-6 with a 5.05 ERA in his career against Milwaukee heading into Wednesday’s outing.
